This was a very enjoyable project we undertook at the beginning of 2020. The design was supplied by Claire Mee Garden Design. It was an interesting plan with some quite unusual shapes of paving. The lawn area was also unusual but it works really well in the given space.
The scope of the project was quite varied given it is a fairly small area. Located beside a beautiful communal garden, the priorities for this garden where slightly different. Given the clients had a large usable area of lawn in the communal area they opted for a small Ellipse shaped lawn surrounded by quite a lot of reclaimed York stone. Thus giving them a large portion of the garden that is paved. This includes a lovely seating area for outdoor entertaining and character full pathways cutting in and out of the beds and lawn that provide good access to the communal gardens at any time of year.
The garden includes some really nice timber features such as the raised Oak sleeper beds, the solid Oak gate and the bespoke painted trellis. The gate was commissioned to the Garden Trellis company to be built. HGL aided with the design, provided all dimensions to ensure a perfect fit, and installed it ourselves. It offers a lovely entrance into the communal gardens. HGL also advised on and designed the trellis included. It was an unusual trellis that needed to be made up from scratch. The client had seen similar elsewhere. HGL viewed the trellis and made some recommendations to improve it. The clients were thrilled.
Also included in the scope of works are lighting, irrigation, planting, wiring, rendering and turfing. It all comes together to provide a really beautiful effect when looking on from the house. The garden is also great by night with nearly 20 lights installed it gives the garden a whole new feeling. It is always an inviting space in winter or summer, by day or night.
